We employ a full time horticulturist who is trained in green roof design, construction, installation and maintenance. He also understands how crucial timing is to reducing the cost of weed management as well as how the improper use of fertilizers or herbicides can compromise a green roof plant community.

 

Feature Project

William B. Ogden Elementary School, namesake school of the first Mayor of Chicago, was completed in August of 2011, and opened in January of 2012. Constructed in Chicago’s “Gold Coast” neighborhood at State and Walton Streets, the LEED certified building features a 37,700 square foot intensive and extensive green roof. The perimeter of the main roof is 4” of extensive green roof media with a vegetated sedum mat, and the inner roof area is an intensive green roof with media depths ranging from 6” to 12”. Also featured on this rooftop is a 5,500 square foot, radiused, Unilock permeable paver walkway, as well as a 6,700 square foot rooftop playground. Read more...
